To some the red cardinal is seen as a loved one "returning from beyond" to visit the living - yet this one is refusing to meet the eye of the woman, all the while being perched upon a tool of brute force that is associated with bloody work or slaughter (both things that a "proper" 1960s lady isn't the most likely to be engaging in, which I thought might lend the image a type of dissonance).
Then I battled the low resolution and limited palette to convey her fingers being crossed behind her back, though it's probably not visible. I feel like she's come under judgement and is swearing to drop a bad habit but not being sincere about it :P That's how it developed, anyway. Making a narrative seems to entertain my brain while I'm making these things, haha. Thanks for checking it out!
