This was my "zeroth" pixel art attempt. By that time I had started collecting books on pixel art, and one of the first of acquisitions was a book called "Arcade Game Typography". It inspired me for the experiment to make a 8x8px monotype font with no antialiasing. The ultimate goal was to create a family of fonts with bold and italic variants and their permutations. Actually, I was quite sure about English alphabet and numbers - they didn't seem too challenging. While Cyrillic "Ж" or "Щ" could appear problematic. One of the criteria was readability of a character with no dependence on context, i.e. a reader should be able to pick any of the characters in isolation from others and comprehend it correctly. Tiny fonts like the one used in PICO-8 fantasy console heavily rely on context or require the reader's eye to adapt. My aim was that the reader didn't need any context or adaptation.

I'm satisfied with the result. 8x8 though seems to be the minimum dimension for the goals I described.

Not yet. However, the more I use them by copy-pasting individual letters, the more I feel a need to make a usable font of them :)
