We Are All Luigi

April 1st 2026 Pixel Art Hand Pixelled

Jude Buffum @judebuffum Pixel Artist / 8-Bit Typographer / @Domestika Teacher This piece was inspired by the final scenes of the anti-fascist film V for Vendetta and the collective rage so many of us are all feeling right now at the state of… everything.

I started doing pixel art 20 years ago as a response to the Iraq War, using the iconography of video games to explore the real world villains of the world in such pieces as President Kong and Mega Man vs Dick Cheney.

20 years later, I am once again using pixel art to comment on the state of things, but now I’m using the language of 8-bit games to explore the heroes of the world. This piece debuted at the iam8bit 20th Anniversary Art Show in 2025.

I won’t say much more than that because, frankly, even as an artist in the US I don’t feel 100% safe anymore speaking truth to power. But I hope it inspires you. To stand up. To speak up. And do your part to bring about the change you want to see in this unjust world.
