Looking at all this, the captain began to come to his senses and remember how he had come to be here. The images of the previous night appeared in his mind like flashes: huge waves crushing the hull of the ship, the mast breaking and falling with a crash, the air ringing with despair, madness and panic gripping people's minds.
But here was the strange thing: when the captain looked around, he saw neither the wreckage of the ship nor the members of his crew. He was all alone. “The storm has taken them all,” thought the captain.
His whole body ached, and he got up and limped toward the lighthouse...
