New Gallery Thumbnails and Palette Linking
posted by skeddles in lospec-updates 3 0I've done an overhaul of thumbnails for art pieces on Lospec! Thumbnails used to be forced to exactly 256x256, which was very rigid and too large for places other than the homepage. It also meant saving enlarged versions for pieces that didn't need it, and multiple sizes for things like notifications. They also didn't stay pixel perfect on monitors with different DPRs.
Better Scaling
Now thumbnails are no longer scaled up, but instead just cropped to the pixels that you see, and scaled up via code. This also lets them be displayed at different sizes, so they can stay perfectly crisp on any DPR, and fit better on other pages. I've also added some half-size rows to the homepage, so we can surface more art, instead of it quickly getting buried in the gallery list. This also fixes a bug on the homepage where if you pinned the new sidebar menu open, the thumbnails would get pushed into more rows than they should.
Not important, but they also now have curved corners, like most other elements on the site. Cute, huh?
Art on Palette Pages
Yes, we finally have gallery pieces on the palette list! On every palette page you will see a new Art Using This Palette section, which lists the best art using that palette, with a link to see more.
No More Broken Thumbnails
I've also fixed a longstanding bug that was a major cause for broken thumbnails: their paths included your username, so if you changed your username, all the thumbnails in your gallery would break. Now it moves them to your new username.
