The original palette is an approximation of the ZX Spectrum's video signal itself (before the CRT transforms it). That's why it's a bit too raw and harsh.

The "adjusted" palette approximates the image after the CRT and PAL processing, i.e. how a person would've actually seen it on a real TV. It bakes in the CRT gamma and PAL-to-sRGB shifts before rounding to 8-bit color > makes it more suitable for display on modern LCD screens.

None of the examples use this palette but similar ones. The colors differ from the theoretical real colors. Maybe they were taken from an emulator screenshot or a jpeg image. Can the author give us insight?

Does anyone know where these colors came from as "the" ZX Spectrum colors?   The specific choices are more interesting than their straight definitions in sRGB, but I can't figure out how they were derived.
