About Photoshop
A general purpose image editor that can be set up for pixel art: nearest neighbour scaling, pencil tool, indexed color mode. Animation is awkward, but the flexibility lets you mimic advanced tools such as index painting.

i only use Photoshop 7.
I know, adobe is lame, but photoshop is battle tested and has tons of features that no pixel-specific editor has, like smart objects, layer styles, adjustment layers, editable font layers.
