About spritebit
spritebit is a pixel art editor that runs entirely in the browser. It needs no account and uploads nothing: sprites are kept in the browser's local storage, and projects can be saved to a JSON file. After the first visit it also works offline and can be installed as a web app.The drawing tools are pencil, brush, spray, fill, eraser, magic wand and the shapes line, rectangle and ellipse, with optional mirroring along one or both axes.
Selections can be made as a rectangle, with a lasso or by color, and moved, copied or cut as a whole. A sprite can hold several layers (visibility, lock, opacity, merge down) and several frames, shown in a timeline with per-frame duration, onion skin and playback on the canvas.
Colors are organised in palettes: built-in ones, custom ones, and a median-cut reduction that turns the colors of an image into a palette. A photo can be placed under the canvas as a template and traced into the grid automatically.
Images export as PNG, PDF, animated GIF or a spritesheet with a JSON atlas. A sprite can also be exported as source code in nine formats — TypeScript, JavaScript, JSON, a game-oriented JSON with a material per color, SVG, CSS box-shadow, a C header, Python and a text grid — and every one of them can be imported back. The interface is available in English and German.
